The web server does keep a short record of the requests it answers, the way a phone keeps a call log: which page was asked for, when, which page linked there, what the browser says about itself, and a shortened network address — the last part of the address is thrown away before anything is written, so the full address never reaches the disk. That record is deleted after seven days. What outlives it is a count: how often a page was read, and which sites link here.
